Which Side to Load On

Loading a Single Horse in a 2 Horse Trailer:

Many times you only have one horse to haul in your 2 horse straight-load (walk-through) trailer.  Which side do you put him/her in?  Does it matter?

Yes, it does.

The lone horse should be loaded on the left (driver's) side of the trailer.

Why?  Since most of us drive on the right-hand side of the road (at least while in the USA) and most all roads are crowned (higher in the middle), having the extra weight on the high side of the road will make the trailer more stable.

The same holds true if you are hauling two horses of significantly different weight (say a pony and a Percheron)... load the big fellow on the left!
